Wildlife Excursions

Spend six days on board our sailing vessel Duen III and explore epic wildlife in Northern Norway. From Tromsø we set sail for Skjervøy, a perfect area to see whales between December and February.

Expect anchorages in secluded areas surrounded by incredible nature. There will be chances of seeing the Northern Lights each night, and every day we will be on the lookout for epic wildlife.

As daylight is limited we are focussing mainly on seeing orcas and minke whales when the sun is up. Evenings are spent either looking at Northern Lights, enjoying a stroll ashore, or firing up a bonfire on the beach. For those really beautiful nights outside, we might even fire up our hot tub on deck.

We encourage our passengers to participate in sailing and other daily routines on board. Give the crew members a hand in preparing the night’s dinner or help steer the vessel towards our wildlife spotting area. That way we will act as a little community on board. Every evening we will gather in the saloon for a social dinner.

Our key goal is to be as environmentally-friendly as possible and be respective of the marine environment as we navigate. We do not leave the engine running unnecessarily and cruise using only sails whenever possible.

Remember, this itinerary is just a teaser! Our actual adventures are at the mercy of weather – that's the thrill of it!

Day 1

Arrive onboard Duen III

Crew members welcome you on board Duen III in Tromsø's guest harbour. A briefing on safety and routines will be given to all passengers. Spend some time getting to know the vessel and start making yourself at home. Dinner will be served on board as you have settled in.

Day 2

Northeastern Tromsø

In the early morning we will start sailing towards Northeastern Tromsø. As we anchor for the night it is time for dinner. Always watch out for those Northern Lights! They might be dancing right over your head if the sky is clear.

Day 3

Continuing Towards the Whales

After breakfast we will continue towards our whale-watching site. As the whales swim into the fjords to feed you may see orcas and humpback whales. Even fin whales stay in these areas. For our adventurous passengers, climb the rigging and enjoy the stunning surroundings from our crows nest in the main mast. The day is spend on the whale-watching site. As the evening approaches we will be on the lookout for a beautiful bay to anchor for the night. Look out for those Northern Lights tonight as well!

Day 4

Whale-Watching and Fishing

We continue looking out for whales. If conditions allow, we will take our fishing rods out and show you the best fishing sites in the area. Our crew members have a keen interest in fishing and will tell you all there is to know. Any edible catches of the day will be served for dinner. The hot tub on the aft will be prepared for our last evening. Don’t forget to look up! The Northern Lights may be dancing over our heads as you are enjoying a warm time in the hot tub.

Day 5

Making Our Return to Tromsø

Breakfast is served as we embark on another day on board Duen III. We are heading southeast. If the weather allows, we will make a stop along the way for a barbecue at one of many beautiful beaches. The Norwegian camping delicacy «pinnebrød» will be on the menu. Dinner is then served on our journey back to Tromsø. Expect a late arrival in the evening.

Day 6

Goodbye and Farewell

After breakfast has been served it is time to say goodbye and farewell to Duen III.
